Engraving of the Skerryvore lighthouse, 1844. Built between 1836 and 1843, with 6000 tons of granite, the lighthouse entered service on 1st February 1844. A temporary wooden barracks, which housed the workmen who built the lighthouse, can be seen on the right of the lighthouse
