Sir Robert Peel, 1846

K0 Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), the English statesman and Prime Minister, sketched speaking in the House of Commons, January 1846. Peel was a Conservative MP who held strong views on Irish Catholicism and Free Trade vs Protectionism, but is probably best remembered for organising the London Police Force in 1829. For a long time, British policemen were nicknamed Peelers or Bobbies in reference to Robert Peel. On 29th June 1850, Peel was thrown from his horse and sustained fatal injuries
