British troops which crossed the Belgian frontier early in the morning of September 3rd rapidly freed Tournai and swept on north and east to enter the capital in the late evening. The welcome they received from the citizens of liberated Brussels has been described as one of the most amazing demonstrations of the whole war. Enthuiastic crowds jump on to a British tank to ride through the city. Date: 1944
