Rue Marechal Foch, Iskenderun, Turkey
Iskenderun (formerly Alexandrette) - a city in the province of Hatay on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Rue du Marechal Foch. At the end of the First World War as the Ottoman Empire imploded, the majority of Hatay (including Iskenderun) was occupied by French troops, hence the troops featured on this card and the name of the street. In 1921 the autonomous Sanjak of Alexandretta was established within French-controlled Syria, eventually returning under the Turkish yolk in 1939. Date: circa early 1920s
