RSS Discovery in the Antarctic
RSS Discovery in the Antarctic. Launched in 1901 and designed for Antarctic research, she was the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton on their first, successful journey to the Antarctic, known as the Discovery Expedition. In 1936 she was presented to the Boy Scouts Association as a static training ship for Sea Scouts in London.
