Princess Alice and Louis depart after wedding
Following their wedding at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, Princess Alice, daughter of Queen Victoria, and Prince Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt leave by carriage for nearby St Clare, where they would spend their honeymoon. The wedding ceremony was overshadowed by the sombre mood of the royal family, still in mourning for the Prince Consort, Albert, who had died the previous December. Date: 2 July 1862
