Royal progress to Balmoral: Banchory triumphal arch, 1848
A triumhal arch of gigantic dimensions, at the entrance to Banchory, decorated for the royal progress of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1848. The arch was composed entirely of heather, and surmounted by a figure of the British crown, six foot high by five and a half foot wide, formed of dahlias and other flowers.
