Aerial View - Thames, Tower of London
This photograph was taken from a point of view nearly due west of the Tower of London. The River Thames is on the right-hand side and Postern Row on the left, Tower Hill separates the Tower from St Katharines Docks and the Royal Mint, this latter building being clearly picked out. It is interesting to note that not only in this photograph but in several others the buildings have the appearance as if the negatives have been touched up to make the individual buildings more conspicuous. This is not so, none of the negatives here reproduced have been so treated. The appearance is with very little south due to the fact that the rain washes and cleanses the top coping stones. Being horizontal and flat they feel the full force of the rain and so get the smuts washed off. 6 July 1908, 5.25 pm. Altitude 2, 300ft. Balloon Corona. Date: 1908
