Romanian coronation 1922
The coronation of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie of Romania at Alba Julia in Transylvania on 15 October 1922. There was no historical tradition of coronations in Romania. A church was specially built for the religious service that preceded Ferdinands coronation: the ceremony itself took place in the town square. Queen Marie, typically flamboyant, arranged the ceremony and designed the costumes. Her crown was based on a fresco of the legendary Princess Despina Doamna at Curtea de Arges
