Richard Boss Crokers horses, Dublin, Ireland
Horses belonging to Richard Boss Croker, an Irishman who emigrated to America as his family fled the potato famine, and worked successively as barman, blacksmith and boxer before climbing the ranks at Tammany Hall, the Democratic Party machine at the hub of New York politics, becoming Boss in 1886. Three of his horses are seen here at Kingsbridge Station, Dublin, as they were trying to get to Armagh for the races, but their journey was hampered by the rail strike.
