Recruitment during WW1 - E. Dwyer VC in Trafalgar Square
Lance-Corporal Edward Dwyer V.C. (1896-1916), pictured on a recruiting drive in Trafalgar Square in December 1915. Know as the Little Corporal, " Dwyer won his Victoria Cross for action at Hill 60 on 20 April 1915 when he repelled a German attack on his trench by standing on the parapet and hurling hand grenades. He later was killed on the Somme on the 3 September 1916. He is seen here hoisted on the shoulders of men of his regiment - the East Surreys. Date: 1915
