Queen Elizabeth II - presentation at Dunoon
Queen Elizabeth II accepts the red rose from Major Michael Campbell, Captain of Dunstaffnage, during her tour of Clyde coast resorts. The dark crimson rose was presented to her as a token rent on behalf of the Duke of Argyll, who is Hereditary Keeper of Dunoon Castle for the Sovereign. The tradition was inaugurated by James III of Scotland in 1472 when he gave a charter to the Clan Campbell. Date: 1958
