Queen Alexandras coronation dress worked in India
The superb overdress of Indian embroidery which was made for Queen Alexandras Coronation costume, being worked during the winter of 1901-2 in Delhi by forty of the most skilled needleworkers at the firm of Manick Chand. Picture shows a number of the workers seated around their embroidery table consisting of a couple slight wooden trestles and four wooden bamboos, the worth of the whole, according to the Graphic, being about ninepence. The white robed figure leaning over the table is Manick Chand himself and the man crouched on the floor to the left is Ashraf Khan who designed the piece. Date: 1902
