Princess Sophia
Princess Sophia (Sophia Matilda; 3 November 1777 27 May 1848), twelfth child and fifth daughter of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Sophia is perhaps best known for the rumours surrounding a supposed illegitimate child to which she gave birth as a young woman. In later life, Sophia lived at Kensington Palace, and consequently was a familiar member of Queen Victorias paternal family. Sophia, like her sister-in-law the Duchess of Kent (Victorias mother) was strongly influenced by Sir John Conroy, comptroller of the household. Date: c.1835
