Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught
rince Arthur, Duke of Connaught (1850-1942), fourth son and seventh child of Queen Victoria and Albert. The Queens acknowledged favourite, Arthur was a career soldier (his godfather was the Duke of Wellington, who he was named after). He entered the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich in 1867 and received his first commission a year later. In 1911 he was to become Governor General of Canada, a post he held for five years. Date: late 1869
