The newborn Prince Edward of York, later Prince of Wales, then King Edward VIII, then Duke of Windsor, being presented to H.H. Asquith, then Home Secretary at White Lodge, Richmond Park when he was born on June 23rd 1894. It was traditional for a government minister to be present to witness the birth of a royal heir although the tradition was dispensed with before the birth of the present Prince of Wales.
