A portrait of Louis Jacques Maude Daguerre (1789-1851). The French artist was famed for inventing the Daguerretype in conjunction with Joseph Nicephore Niepce. The process involved obtaining a photographic image on a copper plate coated with a layer of silver solution. The plate was sensitized to light and cut the exposure time to 25 minutes
