Aircraft Engineering Corporation Ace K-1 N69097
Aircraft Engineering Corporation Ace K-1 N69097. This single-seat biplane, powered by a 40hp Ace engine; was designed by Alexander Klemin (Professor of Aeronautical Engineering, NYU) and N W Dalton. The Prototype had a Ford T motor. One of the first aircraft to be built on an assembly line, primitive as it was. Four self-aligning I-struts, all-wood frame, manufactured at the ACE Flying Field in New York Citys Central Park.at a price of $2, 500, eight were built, one of which made quite a splash in the national press when it landed on Clay St in Oakland CA as a publicity stunt, on 22 January 1920 flown by a C.V.Pickup. The 1920 version was modified with beefed-up struts, redesigned fuselage with enclosed motor and folding wings. Also produced in 1931 with a Salmson AD-9 and LeBlond 5D, registered as Ace 300 and 200 respectively. One located and restored in California 1955. Date: 1955
