Pavlos Giparis

Pavlos Giparis (1880 - 1966). Born in Crete, he fought during the struggle for Ottoman Macedonia between Greek and Bulgarian guerrillas, 1904 - 1908. He was involved in several conflicts as a guerrilla, the Balkan War 1912 - 1913, and fought in World War One as a volunteer for the French army. During World War Two he fought in vain against the Axis Powers occupation of Crete before fleeing to Egypt to serve in the Greek garrison there
