Pattern 1897 Japanese arisaka bayonet sword

Pattern 1897 Japanese arisaka bayonet sword, used in both World Wars; single edged blade, mark of Kokura arsenal. The bayonet incorporated a quillon designed to catch and break an opponent?s bayonet in hand-to-hand combat. The quillon was retained by the Japanese long after other armies had removed them. Date: 1914
