Church of St Francis of Assisi at Pampulha, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer in the organic modern style, with four undulating concrete parabolas decorated with mosaics. It was completed in 1943, but because of controversy over its modern style it was not consecrated until 1959. Date: 1951
