Olivia Manning (1908 - 1980)
Olivia Manning, British novelist and poet, pictured at her home in St Johns Wood, north London, which she shared with her husband R.D. Reggie Smith. Her novel, The Doves of Venus was published in the same year as this photograph. Her most famous work is the six novel sequence known as Fortunes of War, which gained more widespread fame for her after her death when it was adapted as a poular BBC television series in 1987.
