Notre Dame de Brebieres 1916
The ruined church of Notre Dame de Brebieres (Our Lady of the Ewes), in the town of Albert. The golden statue of the Virgin Mary holding aloft the infant Jesus was hit by a German shell in 1915, but secured in place at a seemingly precarious angle by French engineers. The statue finally fell in April 1918
