New Year at the East London Hospital
The New Year is celebrated at the East London Hospital for Children, which had been founded in January 1868 by Dr Nathaniel Heckford and his wife. For the festive celebrations, a large Christmas tree was placed at the end of one of the largest wards. Gathered around the tree are patients well enough to get up from their beds, along with many former patients of the hospital. In the foreground may be seen patients in their beds. Date: 31 December 1869
