James Jollie (1757 - 1846), business man connected with many public institutions in Edinburgh, approaching Robert Sym (1752-1845). Sym owes his place in literary history as the character Timothy Tickler in the Noctes Ambrosiane published each month in Blackwoods Magazine between 1822 and 1835. A tall, thin man, who delighted in taking long walks whatever the state of the weather, Sym was a popular, though slightly eccentric figure in Edinburgh. Date: 1839
