Ruins of Tintern Abbey
The ruins of Tintern Abbey situated in Monmouthshire, on the Welsh bank of the River Wye. Founded on May 9th 1131 by the Lord of Chepstow, dating back to the Cistercian monks. It is an example of the transitional style of early English to decorative architecture. The abbey fell into ruin after the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century. The photograph shows the nave of the church, in which there are six bays and originally had arcades to both northern and southern sides. Date: circa 1900
