RMS Warwick Castle of the Union Castle Line
RMS Warwick Castle of the Union Castle Line in service between Britain and South Africa during the mid 20th century. Built as Pretoria Castle in 1938 by Harland & Wolff at Belfast, she was the sister ship of the Durban Castle and commenced her maiden voyage on the 20th April 1939. Re-purchased after WW2 (where she was re-purposed for use as an Armed Merchant Cruiser) by Union-Castle in January 1946 and rebuilt to her original specification but, because a new mail ship was under construction with Pretoria Castle as her designated name, she was renamed Warwick Castle. Date: circa 1950
