RMS Titamic, letter, John Bartholomew, Southampton
RMS. TITANIC, Extremely rare hand written letter by John Bartholomew, White Star Line's Victualling Superintendent in Southampton from 1907-1912. It is written on White Star stationery with an image of Olympic/Titanic ghosted in the background Olympic and Titanic 45000 Tons, The Largest Steamers in The World (Building). The letter relates to Fred Wright who signed up for Olympic's Maiden Voyage on 13th June 1911 and was on board Titanic and drowned in the disaster. Colonel Gracie remembered bumping into Fred at 12.30am on April 15th 1912, a little under two hours before Titanic sank and remembered saying Hadn't we better cancel our appointment in the morning... The letter itself reads Mr Brown Sailor's Home, Will you please try to get Mr Wright accommodation tonight, and oblige. Yours J.W. Bartholomew. It is unknown if this refers to Titanic's or Olympic's voyage, but regardless this is an exceptionally rare document
