The Palace, Fontainbleau
A painting of the serene waters outside the Chteau de Fontainebleau, the palace was originally a medieval castle and served as residence for the French monarchs from Louis VII to Napoleon III. The architect Gilles Le Breton was commissioned to build the palace in the new Renaissance style, while preserving the old medieval donjon. Date: circa 1918
