Ernest Bevin, British Labour politician
Ernest Bevin (1881-1951), British Labour politician. He served as Minister of Labour in the wartime coalition government, and as Foreign Secretary in the post-war Labour Government. During the Second World War he diverted nearly 48, 000 military conscripts to work in the coal industry -- they became known as the Bevin Boys. Date: circa 1940s
