Denmark Hill, London - spire of St. Matthew's
Denmark Hill, London with the distinctive spire of St. Matthew's Church designed by Alexander Gough. The new church was consecrated in 1848 but the spire and tower were not completed until 1858. On 26 September 1940 the church was largely destroyed in a bombing raid. The tower and spire of the Church were left standing for a number of years until the building of the Dental School on the site (King's College Dental Institute). Date: circa 1910s
