Queen Victoria at Edward Cazalets Villa - South of France
Queen Victoria at Edward Cazalets Villa - South of France in 1885. In 1882, Queen Victoria began her winter affair with the Cote dAzur, she would arrive bearing extensive food and drink supplies, a multitude of staff, Highland soldiers and Abdul Karim, her Indian attendant (highly unpopular with all bar the queen herself). The queen would ride out frequently, either in a carriage or a cart pulled by Jacquot, a donkey she had rescued, half-starved, from a peasant (as lampooned on this card) and which she subsequently took back and forth to England with her. (Jacquot lived out his life at Windsor, after Victorias death.). Date: 1885
