At the Wailing Wall, Jerusalem
A Jewish man at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. This sacred Jewish site consists of an ancient limestone wall situated in Jerusalem which makes up a small part of a much longer ancient retaining wall, known as the Western Wall. Located in the Old City, it is a place of prayer and pilgrimage which is sacred to Jewish people. It is the location of the remains of the Second Temple of Jerusalem which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. It is called the Wailing Wall because Jewish people are often seen weeping at this site over the destruction of the temples. Date: circa 1880
