An artist, better-known for his humorous cartoons in the weekly illustrated periodicals, gets exasperated when people question his more serious paintings. The cartoon could have been taken from life. John Hassall was well-known for his posters and humorous art, but continued to paint seriously and exhibition at the R.I. and galleries throughout the world into the 1920s. Date: 1905
