Prince and Princess of Wales visit Knole, Kent, 1866 Prince
Prince and Princess of Wales (later Edward VII and Queen Alexandra) visit Knole, Kent, the seat of Earl Delawarr in 1866 - the promenade of the company upon the lawn with croquet before dinner. The Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Alfred), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince George) and a large party of the aristocracy accompanied them. They went down to Sevenoaks by a special train of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway from Victoria station. The station at Sevenoaks was decorated with evergreens and flags and festooned with flowers. Date: 1866
