Paraguayan War - Emperor of Brazil at Alegrete Camp
During the Paraguayan War, the Emperor of Brazil assumed command of the Brazilian army and travelled to Alegrete on his way to Uruguaiana, along with his two sons-in-law, the Duke of Sax-Cobourg and Gotha, and the Count of Eu. The emperor sits on a chair, arm resting on a box covered with maps. His sons-in-law stand beside him, the Duke holding his military cap in one hand, the Count also grasping the scabbard of his sword. Date: 1865
