Nelson receiving the swords (as a symbol of surrender) on board the San Jose (later renamed HMS San Josef), a ship captured from the Spanish navy during the Battle of Cape St Vincent, southern Portugal, 14 February 1797, during the Anglo-Spanish War (1796-1808). The British fleet under Admiral Sir John Jervis defeated a larger Spanish fleet under Admiral Don Jose de Cordoba y Ramos. Date: 1797
