Sir Malcolm Campbell (1885-1948), British racing motorist and motoring journalist, land speed record holder; making a trial run for his attempt on his own worlds water speed record in his recently modified, jet-propelled Bluebird II over Coniston Water. It would be Campbells last attempt - he died the following year. Twenty years later, Coniston Water was the backdrop to the dramatic death of his son Donald, during his own water speed record.
