London Hippodrome, Madame Heliot & her lions
Madame Claire Heliot feeding raw beef to her lions (and a couple of dogs), in the arena of the London Hippodrome in 1901 in what The Sphere describes as " a very daring performance". Note the iron bars which arose around the arena during a dangerous animal act to protect the audience. The steak restaurant at the Hippodrome Casino today is named after Claire Heliot! Date: 1901
