Lady Astor wearing Cartier tiara with Sancy diamond
Lady Astor, who sat as MP for the Sutton Division of Plymouth from 1919 to 1945 pictured arriving for the opening of Parliament in 1948 wearing a Cartier tiara featuring the Sancy diamond, a historic gem reputed to have been worn by Charles the Bold at the Battle of Nancy in 1477. It had other owners including Elizabeth I, James I and Marie Antoinette. Date: 1935
