Jews celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles
The Feast of Tabernacles also known as Sukkot is a Jewish holiday that is celebrated over the course of a week, five days after Yom Kippur. Sukkot is a celebration of the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the years that the Jews spent in the desert on their way to the Promised Land, celebrating the way in which God protected them during the harsh desert conditions they had to endure. Sukkot are hut-like structures that Jews are expected to live in during this holiday. This engraving depicts Jews climbing up into the trees to make their huts. Date: circa 1780
