Horses at sea, using slings WWI
Thousands of war horses were bought from all over Britain to serve with British Forces in World War One. They were used to carry supplies and ammunition, transport the wounded and to pull guns. Photograph showing the manner in which the horses for the Dardanelles Expeditionary Force were landed at Mudros, the base in the island of Lemnos, how they were transhipped from the sea-going transports into lighters alongside where the transports could come close in.
