The majority of the over 44, 000 bodies buried here are from the fighting during the First Battle of Ypres that began on 18 October 1914. The cemetery is maintained by the German Peoples Organisation for the Care of War Graves and is the only German cemetery in the Ypres Salient. Date: 2016
