Dress design by Sonia Delaunay
A crepe de chine frock patterned with printed squares of yellow, blue and grey, designed by the artist Sonia Delaunay. Delaunay, born in Ukraine, moved to Paris where she was influenced by the cubist movement. Together with her husband, she adopted Orphism and eventually developed the concept of Simultaneity, where contrasting colours were overlapped and arranged in a harmonious rhythm. Delaunay successfully adapted this high art to more commercial applications, designing home interiors and, as in this case, womens fashion in collaboration with designers such as Jacques Heim and Jacques Doucet. Date: 1928
