Death of Admiral Robert Blake from old wounds, on board ship, within sight of Plymouth, 17 August 1657. He was regarded as the Father of the Royal Navy, although he served under the Commonwealth of England. He was given a full state funeral and buried in Westminster Abbey. Date: 1657
