Auxiliary Fire Service (A. F. S. ) Men hauling the Trailer-pump
Auxiliary Fire Service (A.F.S.) men hauling hose from a trailer-pump. In the early days of the war, the AFS depended on improvisation - as can be seen here, taxis were converted into appliances loaded with crew and hose, for hauling pumps. The firemen have received their uniforms and carry gas masks in the distinctive green satchels. Date: circa 1941
