Alice de Janze in court after shooting Raymond de Trafford
Alice de Janze, Comtesse de Janze and later, Alice de Trafford (1899-1941) pictured in court in Paris where she stood trial for shooting her lover Raymond de Trafford in the Gare du Nord. She was an American heiress who spent years in Kenya as a member of the Happy Valley set and was connected with numerous scandals, including the attempted murder of her lover in 1927, and the 1941 murder of The 22nd Earl of Erroll in Kenya. Her tempestuous life was marked by promiscuity, drug abuse and several suicide attempts. She and Raymond survived the shooting, she was fined just 100 francs and eventually married Raymond in 1932.
