Agnes Reston (1771-1856), known as The Heroine of Matagorda
Agnes Reston (1771-1856), known as The Heroine of Matagorda, wife of Sergeant Reston of the 94th Regiment of Foot. In 1810, during an early phase of the Siege of Cadiz by the French, she worked as a nurse, tearing up the familys linen to make bandages for the wounded men in the fort, and drawing water from the well while under enemy fire. Date: 1810
