Musical instrument maker Johann Reiter of Mittenwald, Germany, surrounded by his wonderful creations, from lutes and cellos to violas and violins. A testament to the high art of carpentry and precision workmanship. The Reiter family have been involved in instrument making in Mittenwald, Germany for well over 100 years. The workshop was founded by Johann Baptiste Reiter (1834-1899), who studied violin-making with Johann Baader and Jean Vauchel, and won several medals and awards for violin-making. He was the leading violin maker in Mittenwald, where out of the total population of 1, 800 -- a full 300 were violin makers! This card depicts Reiters son, also called Johann, who continued in the family business until his death. Date: 1911
