The casket was presented to Lord Morpeth by a large number of the electorate of the West Riding of Yorkshire following his defeat at the previous election. the body of the casket was of black polished oak, with silver gilt mountings. The lid was surmounted by a lion, the crest of Lord Morpeths family. The shields on the side, shown here, bear the arms of the respective polling places in the West Riding, and the number of voters polled upon the occasion which the casket was intended to commemorate.
